Child Abuse
I am experienced in working with adults who have experienced abuse as children. Individuals seek help at various ages of adulthood, and often are triggered when they have children of their own and suddenly remember the trauma more clearly. In therapy, we work so you can gain relief from anxiety and depression and are able to quit focusing on the disturbing memories and feelings associated with traumatic childhood events.
Child abuse is defined as any act towards a child that causes physical, emotional and/or spiritual harm. The signs of child abuse and trauma can vary but the effects are often physical, emotional and/or behavioral. I am here to work with you as an adult with the effects of child abuse.
Traumatic events can shatter child's sense of safety and well-being, setting the stage for behavioral problems and mental illness when we become adults. The goal of psychotherapy is to help you gain authority over these trauma- related memories and feelings so you can move forward with your life.
